Olney Runners launch Anniversary run and the Squeaky Bone team relay race is back

Olney Runners launch new 20th Anniversary ‘Get Running Together’ C25K programme

Olney Runners are passionate about running and know what a positive impact it can have on your physical and mental health.

As part of their 20th Anniversary celebrations as a running club, they are launching a new ‘Get Running Together’ Couch to 5K programme this Autumn.  This is a fantastic opportunity to learn to run with friendly, supportive, qualified coaches, run leaders and club members, who understand, first-hand, how daunting that first run can be and the challenges of sticking to a training programme and they will support you every step of the way!

This 10-week course is suitable for absolute beginners and also those who have had a break from running. The course will be led by Ashley Pettican, a very experienced and motivational Running and Fitness Coach within the club.

The course will follow the NHS programme, and will be held every Wednesday evening, as well as offering two ‘homework’ sessions throughout the week, which can be with an Olney Runners Run Leader and members of the club or participants may wish to run in their own small groups or individually.
These sessions are also social occasions, where you’ll make new friends and meet ‘buddies’ who you can train with outside of the Olney Runners training sessions. The course will end with an optional ‘graduation’ 5k park run held locally.

The cost of the course is £40 which includes a ‘graduation’ T-shirt and full 1-year membership (usually £30) to Olney Runners where you will be slotted into a running group that suits your running ability and where you can continue to make new friends and enjoy the social side of the club activities, including quiz nights, restaurant meals, running events and so much more.

The course will commence on Wednesday 7th September and finish on Wednesday 9th November with the celebration graduation run taking place on Saturday 12th November.

Meanwhile, the Squeaky Bone team relay race is back

Coming back stronger after a few years’ break, the Bones will be Squeaking again at a new, beautiful, riverside parkland venue in Turvey – with all the competition, laughter and cross-country thrills and spills that so many local runners and other clubs have loved for over 10 years!

This race is open to all ability levels. Teams of four run relays around one of two distances (3.5 miles or 2.3 miles) with each member running an entire loop. They then hand their Squeaky Bone baton to the next team member, and it’s their turn. In 2019 it attracted over 150 teams in glorious weather, with great home-made cakes, a whole lot of squeaking and general frivolity!

The 2022 Squeaky Bone race will take place on Sunday 25th September at 10am.  Places are limited and on a first-come-first-served basis. More information and entry details can be found at: www.squeakybone.co.uk.
