Newport Pagnell & Olney Lions Club

Parking just the ticket for busy Lions

Reading Facebook and the parking problems at the Olney Rec during the great weather, had me wondering whether the Lions Club should be ‘employed’ to help the parking issues which abound.

We have certainly become well experienced in that ‘line of work’ as the last few weeks has seen the club and our friends group look after parking at Lathbury Fuchsia Show, Newport Pagnell Carnival, Olney Riverfest and a few ‘bookings’ we have turned down as they were rather far away. These activities are very labour intensive either in relation to the site or the length of time we are needed for. Once again, it was only thanks to members of our friends group and family that we have managed to fulfil our commitment.

Whilst we did raise funds at the Riverfest event, it and the others were more about us honouring our “We Serve” motto.

Our day out with our stall at the Cherry Fair in Olney gave us a great opportunity to meet the residents and visitors who came along. Plenty of items to buy saw us add a nice little sum to our charity account.

Thanks to all who supported us.

Oh, and by the way, we are NOT offering to manage the parking at the Rec!

Ukraine Support

During the month, we have made a further donation to the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) displaced persons fund – bringing our contribution up to £1,500. This will be added to the already £1.5m which
Lions have passed to clubs in the region to help them support the refugees arriving in their area.

Recycling

Our recycling efforts continue with more spectacles being shipped off for refurbishment and distribution to Asia and Africa. One of our friends group has re-introduced our printer cartridge recycling program which brings funds into the club (collecting box in The Quirk Space, Olney) and we are now recycling hearing aids via Professor Nolan and the Starkey Foundation.

A new initiative is seeing us recycling empty foil pill containers and this is being done in conjunction with Harpenden Lions Club.

If you know of anyone who may require the assistance of our Lions Club, please get in touch with us via our website which can be found at – npolneylions.chessck.co.uk.
